In the last 7 days, I walked on average 19,639 steps a day. On my best day I walked over 30K steps and was #61 on StepUp app in Canada. Today, I went to see my doctor to get a shot. I woke up this afternoon and barely walk 5 minutes without going out of breath. I told my mom, we can take the short path today. I haven't walked this short since the early day of my injury. It is okay. I can have an easy day once in a while.
The last 2 posts. I wrote from the Substack app. I didn't even add SEO content, custom images etc. They were extremely barebone. I did the bare minimum. I can take an easy day. I have been writing every day for 2 months. It is okay to not optimizing posts for a day or 2.
Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Most things we do should be optimize for long term not what is in front of us. Marathon runners must pace themselves and strategically refuel to reach the finish line. We too must learn to balance grinding and resting.
Rest isn't just a luxury. It's an important part of a sustainable progress. When we push ourselves consistently, our bodies and minds eventually signal the need for a break. This isn't weakness.
Think of it like strength training. When we lift weights, we're actually creating tiny tears in our muscle fibers. It's during the rest period that these fibers repair and grow stronger. It leads to increased muscle mass and strength. Similarly, rest time is perfect for reflecting on our progress, and preparing for the next steps.
However, resting for a day or two is recovering.
Resting for days after days is procrastination.
The key is finding the right balance between rest and action.
It is better be consitent than perfect. Consistency means showing up regularly, even if it's just to do the bare minimum. So don't be afraid to take that easy day when you need it - just make sure you get back on the path tomorrow.
You work hard. Take an easy day.
Until tomorrow,
Cammi
PS. I am working on a series of long posts with downloadable templates. More long-form content is coming.
