Now for something that's been on my mind since before I left...
โBut That's How We've Always Done Itโ
It's the most expensive sentence in business.
Not because it costs money (though it does), but because it costs possibility.
Every time someone defends the status quo with these words, they're really saying: "I'm afraid of what might happen if we try something new."
A decision to stay small. To avoid responsibility. To choose the comfort of mediocrity over the discomfort of possibility.
Here's what we forget: "How we've always done it" was once new. Someone, somewhere, had to try it for the first time. They had to face uncertainty, risk failure, and challenge their own "that's how we've always done it."
The irony? The very systems we cling to today were once revolutionary. The assembly line. The open office. The 9-to-5 workday. Each was met with resistance from people defending their version of "how we've always done it."
But markets don't care about your comfort zone. Neither do your customers. They care about what works better, faster, smarter.
The real question isn't "Why change?"
It's "Why not?"
Because if you won't change how you've always done it, someone else will.
And then your "always" will become their "never again."
The choice is yours.
Because in the end, it's not really a choice at all.
