Dear unlearners,
"Just be yourself."
Terrible advice if yourself sucks.
If you're insecure, being authentic means staying insecure.
If you're defensive, authenticity means never taking feedback.
If you're lazy, it means calling your lack of effort "staying true to who you are."
If you're bitter, authenticity means nursing old grudges.
If you're negative, it means spreading pessimism as "keeping it real."
If you're closed-minded, it means calling stubbornness "having principles."
Authenticity became a shield. People hide behind it to avoid growth.
"I'm just being real," they say when they won't change.
"This is who I am," they announce when they won't learn.
That's not authenticity. That's fear dressed up as integrity.
Real authenticity isn't clinging to your worst habits.
It's building a version of yourself worth being.
It's being honest about your flaws while working to fix them. It's staying true to your values while upgrading your skills. It's keeping your core while improving your edges.
The most authentic people aren't the ones who never change. They're the ones brave enough to become better.
Don't worship authenticity.
Worship becoming.
Being yourself isn't the goal. Becoming better is.
Until next time,
Cammi
